About The Militias of Anglia
"It’s dark times: an era where suspicion walks and where a pointed finger can lead to the death of an innocent. A time when a home can be overrun by soldiers. When a father or son could be dragged off to fight at any moment, often for a cause they have no say in.
The witchfinder general roams the lands. As do the 'lost soldiers’: blood-listed criminals and diseased deserters. Pray that their wanderings do not lead them to your door. Welcome to the 17th century."
The Militias of Anglia was founded back in 2019. We’re an association of 17th-century reenactors and tour nationwide. We can set up an ‘encampment’ at client sites, incorporating up to 10 tents with each one showcasing a particular contemporary skill or craft, from ink and butter making to rush weaving and blacksmithing. It’s a truly immersive experience and all applicable health and safety practices are in place. COVID-19 measures can also be applied if required. If you’d like a tailored programme that meets your specific requirements, we can adapt the activities as needed.
Practically any British historical period
Though we specialise in 17th-century reenactments, we can put on events for other time periods as well. Many of our team hold Master’s and degree-level qualifications in their chosen fields and some are former British Museum curators. It means we’re in a position to put on a range of events, from Roman and Saxon reenactments to Napoleonic and World War I events.
Testimonial
"We have featured the Anglia Militia on our Daffodil Weekend programme for a number of years now and they have become a firm favourite with our 12,000 visitors over the two days. We enjoy the historical and educational element they bring to the weekend which attracts children and adults alike (the guns being an obvious favourite). They set up camp on the Friday evening and on Saturday morning 9am they are there looking splendid in costume and ready to greet the visitors.
This year the display was the best yet, with a group of around nine tents and tables displaying basket weaving, blacksmithing, cooking, armoury, and woodcrafts – all in period. They have become part of the team – they’re enthusiastic, great value for money, and are very photogenic for PR purposes too!
We thoroughly recommend them."
